Getting Started on Poshmark
Once you set up your profile, now known on Poshmark as your closet, gather your clothing and accessories to start selling. I recommend using a white background to take clear photos with to let your products shine without any noise from the background.
Taking photos of your products can be time consuming. Take pictures from a number of angles, showing any wear and tear, any damages or just to show how great your item is!
You can take photos on a hanger against a plain background or as a flatlay. If you plan on showing how your item is to be used, make it CLEAR that the only item you’ll be selling is what you’ll see. I know some users love to take an Instagtram type flatlay but I personally only like showing the item to be sold. Some customers may not actually read and it’s not worth your time to deal with a return over it.
How to Price My Items to Sell on Poshmark
Price your items accordingly! Do research on Poshmark and other platforms to see what other similar items are selling for. Even though you spent $100 on a shirt and only wore it once or twice, it needs to be priced correctly to sell.
Other users can make offers on your item if they’re looking to negotiate. You can accept the offer or counter with an offer of your own. This is where you’ll need to take into account what your item sells for on the site and elsewhere and how much you’re actually willing to let it go for.
Listing an Item on Poshmark to Sell
When listing your items on Poshmark, use specific keywords related to your item to sell. Imagine trying to rank in Google. Use the brand name, styles and colors in your title to help sell your item quickly and rank higher in searches on Poshmark. This is called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.
Potential customers know exactly what they are searching for so being as descriptive as possible in your title will help your item reach it’s potential new owner quicker.
Think about when you have a specific item in mind you want to buy and the keywords you’d search for!
Poshmark Selling Tips
In addition to the SEO tips mentioned above, there are specific tips related to Poshmark that you’ll want to follow.
Poshmark is almost like a social network and the platform wants you to engage! Stay active to sell more. Seriously.
Here are my top tips for selling on Poshmark:
- Find new users to follow. Finding new users to follow will help grow your closet and get your items seen by more potential customers!
- Share share share! When your share another user’s items from their closet, they’ll share back! You can also share your own items with your followers but the magic really happens when you share from other closets. You can share your entire closet two to three times a day.
- Join Parties. Join parties when you can to help stay active on Poshmark. Share your items during these Parties to sell more!
- List often. Listing often will help you sell more and grow on Poshmark!
In addition to using the above tips, post your items on social media, like Pinterest and Facebook to help get your items in front of more people.
How to Ship with Poshmark
I really do like Poshmark’s integrated shipping. It makes it really easy for the user. Poshmark automatically sends the pre-paid USPS Priority label for you to use.
You really do want to ship as quickly as possible. This is an Amazon world. While it doesn’t have to get there in less than two days, you’ll want to ship it out same day. Poshmark wants you to ship out in 2-3 days max. If that’s not feasible, get in contact with the buyer and Customer Service because you may need a new USPS label.
Pack your item nicely. Run a lint roller on it, make sure it’s as pictured and wrap nicely for your customer especially if you’re planning on making this a business. Using tissue paper and a “Thank you!” sticker to close it will help earn that 5 star rating.
If you’re using USPS boxes, you HAVE TO use Priority Shipping. Not Express and not Flat Rate. You can pack in your own box, but the Priority Shipping boxes are free at the Post Office. If you’re starting a Poshmark side hustle, get your supplies before you sell.
Can You Make Money Selling on Poshmark?
